DIY Paper Rosettes for Every Holiday

Paper rosettes are timeless decorations that add a festive touch to any space or to any occasion. Whether you're preparing DIY decorations for Valentine's Day, Easter, the Fourth of July, or any special occasion, these rosettes can be crafted from lightweight paper, such as scrapbooking sheets or even vintage sheet music. These paper rosettes are quick and easy. I hope that you enjoy this easy rosette tutorial.

Supplies:

  • Vintage music paper (you can use lightweight cardstock)

  • Hot Glue

  • Bearly Art Precision Glue

  • Dowel Rod or Kebab Skewer

  • Ribbon

  • Embellishments like:  scrapbooking paper, ephemera, paper hearts, doilies, etc.

  • Clay pot or metal pot

  • Paint (color of choice)

  • Floral foam

Instructions:

Step One: Cut the Paper

  • Start with a sheet of vintage music paper or a 9” x 12” sheet of paper. You can also just use an 8 ½” x 11” piece of paper or light weight scrapbooking paper.

  • Cut the paper in half lengthwise- you need four 4.5” x 12” strips.

Step Two: Fold the Paper

  • Take one of the 4.5” x 12” strips and begin making a fan fold (accordion fold) along the short side.

  • Each fold should be about ¼” wide. To do this:

    • Fold the paper up by ¼” on one end.

    • Flip the paper over and fold it up again by ¼” like a fan fold or accordion fold.

    • Continue flipping and folding until the entire strip is folded.

Step Three: Create More Strips

  • Repeat Step Two for the remaining strips. You should have four folded strips in total, each measuring 4.5” x 12”. (If you want your paper rosette to be fuller, add another 4 1/2” x 12” strip of the same paper.

Step Four: Assemble the Rosette

  • Take one folded strip and apply glue along the edge of one end with Bearly Art Precision Glue.

  • Attach the end of the second strip to it, ensuring the folds align in a continuous mountain and valley pattern. If you have two ends going the same way, trim off one of the pieces so that you will still have a mountain and a valley. This just makes the rosette look nicer…more finished.

  • Repeat this process with the remaining strips, connecting them until you form a complete circle.

Step Five: Form the Rosette

  • Gently push the top part of the circle toward the center while holding the edges down.

  • This action will flatten the circle into a rosette shape.

  • Hold the rosette in place and secure the center with hot glue or a strong adhesive (hot glue) to maintain the shape. If you have a craft mat, place it under the paper rosette because it may take quite a bit of hot glue.  Hold the center until the rosette maintains its shape.

Step Six: Decorate the Center

  • Once the glue has set, decorate the center of the rosette with Valentine-themed items such as:

    • Paper hearts

    • Scrapbook paper

    • Doilies

    • Any other ephemera you like

Step Seven: Attach the Stick

  • Paint or stain the dowel rod or kabob skewer.  (Dollar Tree BBQ skewers work great)

  • Glue a dowel rod or kebab skewer to the back of the rosette for a handle.

  • Decorate the back of the paper rosette to cover up part of the stick. This also helps keep the paper rosette stay together….it gives it more stability.

Step Eight: Prepare the Pot

  • Paint or decorate a small metal or clay pot to match your Valentine's theme.

  • Fill the pot with florist foam to hold the rosette upright.

  • Insert the dowel rod with the paper rosette into the foam.

  • Cover the foam with paper shreds, moss, or tissue paper for a finished appearance.

These charming paper rosettes aren't just for Valentine's Day. They make delightful table decorations for ladies' luncheons, bridal showers, or any festive occasion.
