Gathering Materials and Inspiration

Imagine bringing together different materials and textures to create a one-of-a-kind artwork that will captivate anyone who lays eyes on it. By embracing your creativity and thinking outside the box, you have the opportunity to create a truly extraordinary piece that reflects your imagination and artistic vision. So, let's dive in and discover the magic of mixed media art on a wood panel!

Supplies Needed:

Step One:

Paint the top of the Carrot Green. You don’t have to remove the extra wood piece on the top because you will be covering the top with strips of green fabric.

Step Two:

Using the wooden carrot, cut out the shape from the Decorative Tile and glue onto the carrot using hot glue and E6000. (or any strong adhesive)

The decorative tile is supposed to have an adhesive backing but I have found the white plastic part of the back is only glued around the edges, so I just tear the white backing off.

Step Three

Paint the decorative tile that you glued to the carrot, orange (you may need two - three coats).

Step Four

Using either a brown stamp pad or Waverly Antique Wax, quietly go over the tile, trying to only hit the high spots of the tile.

Step Five

Tear ½” to 1” strips of a variety of green fabric.

For the first layer, fold the strip in half and hot glue onto the top of the carrot.

For the second layer, tie the strips into a knot and then hot glue on top of the bottom layer.

 Step Six

Print out the Fresh Carrot Tag (FREEBIES) onto Canvas paper. (I empty the paper tray before I run through my printer)

Step Seven

Add either a raffia or fabric bow where the green fabric meets the orange carrot.  I added two buttons on top of the raffia bow for a more finished look.

Wood Panel Frame

I used the back of a 12” x 16” wood panel frame so that it gave the project a 3D look.  You can use it either way, it’s your choice.

Step One

Paint the edges of the frame with Waverly Antique Wax Paint and then wipe off as much as you want with a baby wipe.

Step Two

Using book or music paper, collage pieces over the entire inside of the frame using Mod Podge or gel medium.  Be sure and coat both sides of the paper.

Step Three

I wanted to add a distressed look to my canvas so I used Texture Paste and a stencil.  Just place your stencil down and with a palette knife, run a layer of Texture Paste over the stencil.  I just placed the stencil in random places all over the canvas.  Allow this layer to dry before moving to the next step.

Step Four

You can use a stamp pad or the Waverly Antique Wax and gently brush on top of the texture paste (once it’s dried) to really bring out the texture from the stencil.  (or you can add paint to the texture paste before applying through the stencil)

I also added stamped images using bubble wrap and the Waverly Antique Wax Paint.

Step Five

Print out the Fresh Carrot Tag Design. This is a Free Download. I printed the Fresh Carrot Tag on Canvas Paper. I empty the paper tray and the canvas paper through my printer. Be sure and wait before touching to allow the ink to dry. I also like to spray a coat of Rustoleum Clear Sealer.

Step Six

After everything is dry, it’s time to complete the project.

Use strong adhesive and attached the finished carrot to the wood panel frame.
