Steps To Make A Patriotic Fabric Flower:
Step # 1 - Cutting Your Fabric Strips
Tear the strips into ½” to ¾” wide strips by 8”. The first flower I made, I measured 6” which is enough fabric but it made it difficult to pull the tails through the loop!
You can either tear or cut the fabric. It just depends on the style you are wanting. Do you like the frayed look? If so, use the tear method.
Step #2 - Adding The Strips of Fabric
Add the strips to the shower curtain ring a using a slip knot
I used about 21-24 strips of fabric. It depends on how full you want your Patriotic Fabric Flower to be.
Step #3 - Cutting the centers for the Patriotic Fabric Flowers
I traced the inside of the shower curtain ring onto cardboard and cut it just a bit bigger.
I cut two circles - one for the front and one for the back. (This step is not necessary if you will not be able to see the back of the flowers) I covered one circle with fabric and painted the other circle blue.
Step #4 - Covering the centers for the Patriotic Fabric Flowers
You can either use fabric to cover the cardboard circle or paint. If using fabric, cut the circle about 1” bigger than your cardboard circle.
Using hot glue, carefully glue the fabric to the cardboard circle. Please don’t burn yourself!!!
One flower, I decided to add polyfill to the center so that it would look three dimensional. To be honest, I liked the center with just fabric the best.
Step # 5 - Putting Your Patriotic Fabric Flower together
Once you have all your fabric strips attached to the shower curtain ring, all you need to do is hot glue the center to the front.
Hot glue the dowel rod to the back of the flower. You can either cover the dowel rod with another circle or leave it without.
Final Touches
You can use your flowers either by themselves or make an arrangement with them like I did. If you’d like to see how I transformed the Dollar Tree Flower Bucket, then be sure and check out the post “Transforming A Dollar Tree Planter with a Rustic Finish”.
