How to make Fabric Pumpkins
I just love how these pumpkins turned out! They are just so cute…even if I do say so myself!!! Plus this is a simple 30 minute project that anyone can do.
I cut a piece of fabric to approximately 12” long and 8” tall. The size of your fabric will determine the sizes of your pumpkin. Mine are about 4 – 5 inches tall.
The orange fabric was a bit too plain so I used a round sponge dauber and acrylic paint and added dots! The daubers really make this so easy! Be sure and let the paint dry completely before moving to the next step. Also, if you need to iron your fabric do this first before painting the white dots. I now have a few white dots on my ironing board cover!!!
Put the right sides together and either stitch closed or hot glue. Either way works!
To close up the bottom of the pumpkin, you will need to use a running stitch and then gather the fabric. Be sure and watch the video for a handy tip on how to tie a know at the end of your thread. After this is done, you are ready to stuff.
I used polyfil but you can use an old T-Shirt cut up or the stuffing from an old pillow.
I used baker’s twine (about 36”-40”) to close up the pumpkin and trimmed the excess fabric off of the top. (In the video, I say “3 feet of twine” but I meant about “3 feet of twine”.
What do I do with all the excess twine?
You are going to wrap the pumpkin with the twine. When you reach the top of the pumpkin you need to loop the twine around and make two more loops around the pumpkin. This will give you 6 indentions. You can make these are tight are you want to!
After you are done, all you have to do is embellished.
I used an old wine cork for the stem. I had to trim this down so it was proportional to the size of the pumpkin. Then I added a raffia bow, fall silk leaves and a small acorn.
