Step-by-Step Instructions:

Painting the Wooden Ovals

Who says that pumpkins have to be orange?  Let’s think outside the box and give this pumpkin a fresh, modern twist by painting it a lovely shade of navy blue.  You can paint your oval shapes any color. Think outside the box: bright pink, purple or even the traditional color….orange.

After the paint was dry, I added large white circles using the sponge dauber from Dollar Tree.

Hint:  Gently twist the sponge dauber to get an even coat of paint.

After the white circles was dry, I used a #8 round paint brush and added swirls in the circles with a Bright Yellow acrylic paint.

The pumpkin is now ready to put together!

Assembling the Pumpkin

Attach two of the wooden ovals together using the large popsicle sticks on the back with either hot glue, E6000 or adhesive of your choice.  Make sure that they are even at the bottom.

Next flip the two ovals wood pieces over that you glued together. Glue the third oval on top.  Be sure to align everything up at the bottom.

Add Embellishments

Enhance your pumpkin’s appearance by adding raffia, fall leaves, flowers, and a junk bow. These embellishments will give your pumpkin a festive and unique look.

Create the Stem

For the stem, you can use a wine cork glued to the top of the pumpkin. If you don’t have a wine cork you can make a stem from cardboard and wrap it with jute twine for a rustic touch.

Adding a Hanger

If you want to hang your pumpkin, drill two holes in the top corners. Cut a length of wire about 2-3 times the width of the pumpkin. Insert it through the back and twist the wire closed.

Wrap the wire around a pencil to create a curly effect.

Insert the other end through the back and twist it closed. You can also use jute twine instead of wire for a simpler hanger.

Now, your whimsical pumpkin is ready to be displayed! Hang it on your front door, or place it as a centerpiece in your home to celebrate the fall season with a twist.
