Quick and Easy DIY Christmas Ornaments Using FREE Printable
Last year, after I crafted a Christmas tree out of rulers, I found myself with a few leftover pieces. Instead of tossing them, I turned them into unique, rustic Christmas ornaments! To make things even more fun, I created a FREE Christmas Ornament Printable that you can use too.
Here’s how I made these ornaments step by step:
1. Cutting and Prepping the Ruler
I cut the wooden ruler into 5-inch sections, then stained the sides and back using Waverly Antique Wax for a rich, vintage look. I applied the printable to the front of each ruler piece using Matte Mod Podge. Once it dried, I added another layer of Mod Podge as a topcoat for protection and shine.
2. Embellishing the Ornaments
To make each ornament stand out, I added special touches and decorations. Here’s what I did for each design:
- Truck Ornament: I trimmed a mini bottle brush tree to size and glued it on to bring the truck design to life.
- Believe (with red berries): I simply added three styrofoam red berries from Dollar Tree for a festive pop.
- Peace Ornament: After sanding the edges for a distressed, rustic look, I hot glued a jute twine hanger and finished it with embellishments and baker’s twine.
- Red Believe Ornament: I drilled two small holes, added wire that I curled around a pencil, and attached a junk bow for a whimsical touch.
- Christmas Tree Ornament: To give the tree a festive flair, I glued on mini yellow ball ornaments and a gold star at the top. I used small white rick-rack for the hanger to finish it off.
- Snowman Ornament: A few sequin snowflakes were the perfect addition to the snowman. I wrapped jute twine all the way around the ruler for a simple but rustic hanger.
These ornaments would make a great Christmas Craft night with the family or even a Ladies Night Out because they are so quick and easy to make
Plus, it’s a great way to use up the leftover pieces of the ruler rather than throw them away. I hope you’ll download the FREE Christmas Ornament Printable and try making some yourself!
