Want to learn to Bible Journal?
I’ve been Bible Journaling for about 6 years and have truly enjoyed spending time with the Lord. I’ve documented sermon notes, meaningful scriptures, bible study notes and even praise songs. I’ve always written in my bible but now when I read a scripture, I’m filled with images that bring the scripture to life for me.
When I first started a group Bible Study over 30 years ago, I wanted to purchase a new Bible with study notes. My husband, Bob, and I went to a Christian bookstore and I picked out this beautiful leather Bible and I was so proud. A few weeks later, I was doing my study and Bob noticed that I was underlining scripture and writing notes in the margins of my “new and expensive” Bible, he was horrified. He asked, “How can you treat your Bible that way”? Then he realized that what I was doing was actually helping me study and remember the scriptures.
That’s what Bible Journaling is to me. It’s simply a creative way for me to praise the Lord through art and worship. Some people just highlight or draw a border around the scripture that they are studying. Others add simple doodles, draw elaborate images, watercolor, stencil or whatever they are lead to do. You don’t have to be a well-trained artist to bible journal…all you need is a willing and open heart to let the Lord speak to you.
Where Do I Start?
My suggestion to getting started is to use an art journal or purchase a Bible or hymnal from a used bookstore. Raid your children’s art supplies and start simple. I’m amazed to go back and see the first pages that I ever did and then look at how much I have grown as an artist through my Bible journaling.
You don’t need to start out with expensive supplies…use what you have. Markers, watercolors, colored pencils or crayons!
Let’s Create Together!
If you are interested in Bible Journaling, I’ve put together an Ebook that is listed in the Freebies tab above. You can download and it will give you suggestions for bibles, supplies and ideas on how to get started. There is even a few templates that you can use for Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart”.
I still have that leather bound bible that I bought so many years ago. I love going back and seeing all the notes that I’ve written. I also love the fact that I’ve dated some of them because it helps me remember what was going on during that time period. I don’t create art in this bible. I have several bibles that are specially for bible journaling and creating in.
