Have you started the August Inspiration Card Challenge yet?

I’m having so much fun with the August Inspiration Card Challenge. I’ve been looking through magazines, finding words, phrases and getting new color scheme/pattern ideas.

The past few days have been a bit challenging for me. Do you ever just feel like the world is on your shoulders and you just don’t know what to do? That’s me! I found this awesome scripture in the magazine “Faith” by Sweet to the Soul which you can find on Amazon. This is an awesome magazine full of scripture, uplifting stories and beautiful photography. It is a bit pricey but it is definitely worth it.

This scripture card was the inspiration for Day Eleven - #AugustInspiration”.

Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest
— Matthew 11:28

I think that I need to keep this card out everyday as a reminder that “God’s Got This”! I need to take the weight off of my shoulders and place it on God’s…good thing that He has broad shoulders. These cards have really lifted my spirits and motivated me to be creative everyday.

For the August challenge, I’m using an acrylic recipe card holder that I’ve had forever and never used. It works out perfectly because I can flip my cards and use them next month for inspiration or continue to make new ones. I can’t wait to make cards for November. I plan on making “gratitude” cards and be encouraged to be thankful for something everyday.

Use What You Have!

My goal is to encourage people to use what they have in their stash like: magazines, book/hymnal paper, scrapbook paper, business envelopes and markers (even Crayola brand). Just let your imagination go wild but don’t spend too much time on each card. Set a timer for 15 to 20 minutes. Don’t stress out…let this be a fun experience.

I’ve discovered watercolor crayons that I’ve had for years but totally forgot about. Stamps that I’ve had forever and never used. Punches that I’ve not used in awhile. This challenge has really helped me use what I have! (Maybe if I use everything up, I can buy more craft supplies….just kidding!!!)

Write it Down - and then Paint over it!

One way that I have found that helps me when I just feel overloaded with problems, is to write my thoughts and feelings in a prayer to God. The only problem is that I don’t really want anyone else to see this prayer. So I start writing in one direction and when I get to the end, I turn the page over and write in the other direction. I did this process until I reached “Amen”!!!

Once I’ve finished writing, I use acrylic paint and cover the whole card up. No one else knows what’s underneath but me…and usually, after I’ve written it down, I forget about it because I’ve given it to the Lord. When the paint dried you could see some of the text underneath which made the card look like I’d used crackle medium. It’s always cool when unexpected things happen!

Don’t Let That Paint Go To Waste!

Another thing to remember is when you finish painting your card, don’t forget to use up all that extra paint that’s on your palette. I used mine to paint on a few extra cards for the August challenge. I also added more paint to my under paper just by finger painting. It’s always fun to channel the “inner child”. I plan to use this paper for either an art journal page or on another August Inspiration card.

I used a few items to add texture to my page like: bubblewrap, cake decorating plastic piece, and a top from a tube of tissue. Don’t throw away those items that can be used to create texture to a page.
