Let's make an adorable Chick for Spring
A few weeks ago, I saw the cutest little wooden chick on Pinterest created by Janice from Creating Through Chaos. I knew that I had to make this adorable little chick to add to my Easter/Spring Tier Tray. She actually used a round wood slice but I saw the oval shaped wooden cutouts at Hobby Lobby and I just knew that they would make a great chick!
Supplies Needed:
Acrylic Paint
Hot Glue
Feather
Instructions:
Paint 2 wooden oval plaques with Yellow Paint color of your choice. I painted both sides of the wooden pieces because I was afraid that you would be able to see part of the unpainted backside when I glued them together.
Paint 2 hearts yellow and 2 hearts orange
Before putting the chick together, add 2 dots of black paint for the eyes by using the end of a paintbrush. After it dried, I added a dot of white Posca Paint Pen. (You can use a Black Sharpie and draw a two circles for the eyes)
Draw a triangle shape using a Frixion pen (the most magical thing ever) and paint orange. You don’t have to do this step but I wanted to make sure that I put the eyes and beak in the right place….plus it’s really fun to use the heat gun and watch the ink disappear.

Add white and orange dots or swirls around the bottom section of the chick.
Once everything is dry, glue the feather to the back of the chick at the top of the body.
Sandwich the 2 wooden plaques together using hot glue or any quick drying craft glue. If you don’t have hot glue, you can always use E6000 and then use bull clips to hold it together until it’s dry.
Hot Glue the two orange hearts to the bottom of the body. This takes a bit of patience waiting for the glue to dry. Also, I found that if you add a small piece of a popsicle stick it to the back of the body, it helps to support the feet.
Hot glue the two yellow hearts (upside down) on the side of the body for the chick’s wings.
After painting all the pieces, it took me about 20 minutes to put the chick together. These little chicks are so cute and will look great on my tier tray for Spring. I also thought that if you are having a Spring or Easter Brunch/Dinner, these little chicks would make great place cards.
On the first picture above, I added the name of each person to the bottom of the chick using a black Posca Paint Pen. I also added shading around the edges.
