How to enjoy the sweetness of the Lord

How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth
— Psalm 119:103

As some of you may know, last Wednesday I tested positive for COVID. My husband had come home from a business trip and found out that he had it and I guess, even trying to stay away from each other, it was inevitable that I also got the nasty infection! As soon as I tested positive, I immediately sent a message to my doctor. She prescribed me “Paxlovid”. You take 3 pills in the morning and 3 pills at night. I’m thankful that the pills did their job but they tasted like I had just eaten a tin can and that taste lasted all day long.

Last week while I was taking the prescription, I drank what felt like gallons of water everyday. I also drank a coke almost everyday trying to get the metallic taste out of my mouth. I don't usually drink cokes very often, but the sweetness of the drink helped coat my tongue and dull the nasty taste in my mouth. I even chewed gum which I'm not a fan of. I usually chew the gum for about a minute and then spit it out but not last week!

Did you know that you could actually eat the honeycomb? Each cell is full of raw honey and as you chew you get burst of sweetness. Some people actually chew this like gum and then spit it out. You can actually swallow the honeycomb for additional health benefits.

Since I’ve done a few crafts the past two weeks in the bee theme, I decided to do a Bible journaling page on Psalm 119:103.

As I began to do a bit of research, I discovered that there are many health benefits to honey and honeycomb like: Honey is a healthy alternative to sugar: it supports heart health, reduces cholesterol and eases cold and allergy symptoms (I love honey in my hot tea when I have a cold). There are lots of benefits to honey but more importantly there are so many benefits to chewing on God’s word. The word of God is nourishment for the soul and gives comfort to those who are depressed, overwhelmed or just lost hope.

You can find a reference to honey all throughout the Bible like:

  • Genesis 43:11 - From Jacob and given as a gift to a powerful man (Joseph) in Egypt

  • Exodus 3:8 "a land flowing with milk and honey" was promised to the Jews when they fled from Egypt

  • Matthew 3:4 - John the Baptist ate locusts and wild honey The Word or God is the best healing medicine there is.

For this Bible journaling entry, I used Arteza colored pencils. After I colored my image, I used Odorless Mineral Spirits that I purchased at Hobby Lobby (you can also purchase from Amazon as well). If you want to learn more about this technique, check out my earlier blog post “How To Create Magic With Colored Pencils”.

After I finished coloring and blending the background image, I traced around all the images with a waterproof black pen and then added Stickles to the wings of the bees.

I pray that you will chew on God's Word and feel the sweetness of His love burst into your life. Get into God's word because it is a gift just like Jacob sent honey to Joseph in Egypt as a peace offering. I don't know about you but I rather eat honey than locusts like John the Baptist!

If you spend time in God's Word, you will find a "land flowing with milk and honey" that will supply all your needs.

If you have any questions, about any of the techniques used for this Bible Journaling entry, please leave a comment and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
